Meet Boaks, a meet the brewer event to celebrate Boaks 4th year anniversary was Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Mohawk House, Sparta, NJ
I attended this event on my way home from work (easy sell to the wife to stop on my way home), I’ve met Brian Boak before at other events, and he always loves to talk to people about his beer. Brian Boak has been a one-man show from the start.
Mohawk had four of Boaks beers, Double BW (A Belgian wheat 4.2%); Two Blind Monks (A Belgian Dubbel 7%); Wooden Beanie (Abbey Brown or Two Blind Monks in Jack Daniels Barrels with Madagascar Vanilla Beans 7%) & Monster Mash (Imperial Stout 10%).
The bartenders informed Brian those who had purchased his beer, and then Brian would strut over to the craft beer lover and speak with them about his beer and the history of Boaks. I enjoyed all of Boaks beers; I first purchased a 4 beer sampler, which worked out nicely as Boaks had 4 beers available for this event. Then, I had a pint of Wooden Beanie and Monster Mash. Knowing the readers, I probably don’t need to tell you that the Monster Mash can sneak up on you being a 10% stout, but, I will say this stout definitely hides the 10% alcohol content very well.
I really enjoyed this event and Mohawk House currently has 42 taps of all craft beer, and as I understand it, they are going to be expanding to 50 taps really soon. This is a great craft beer bar in Sussex County, which if you are in the area (Sparta, NJ), you might want to stop by and check it out.
I took some pictures of beers I had at this event — my sampler of Boaks and the growler I purchased that night. Lastly, I took a picture of my bulldog Mason who apparently also was interested in trying some Wooden Beanie!!
The Mohwak House is located at 3 Sparta Junction in Sparta. Check them out online.
