I ‘m the current President of Ocean County Home Brewers club. I was talking to Jason, the head brewer at Rinn Duin, recently and he told me I should get in touch with you guys and girls to maybe help spread the word. We’re still in our fledgling phases but new members are always a good thing. Between all of our members we have well over 50 years of experience and it’s the only club in the ocean county area to my knowledge. We’re planning on having events in the future and currently having our first in-club brewing competition.

We meet every second Tuesday of the month at the Tipperary Pub in Lakehurst (NJCB friendly!) starting around 7:30pm in the Whiskey Room.

You can also like our page on Facebook. Ocean County Home Brewers: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ocean-County-Home-Brewers/124612794395862?ref=stream

You can also follow them on Twitter at @OCHomebrewClub!
Mead, the traditional drink of love! Brewed and fermented from honey, this is an ancient beverage that is unlike any other alcoholic drink. We’ll be educating about mead, explaining the folklore behind the beverage and also the process used when brewing. Six different styles of mead will be available to sample, and we’ll be offering one-day-only discounts on appointments and ingredients if you’d like to make a batch of your own!

Our friends at love2brew have put together a great way to brew with them!

Brew on Premise at love2brew!

Brewing Beer is a fun, simple, and easy activity that can be done here at love2brew as well as your home! Whether you are a complete novice looking to have someone guide you through the process, an experienced brewer looking to take your skills to the next level, or someone who just needs to utilize our equipment to brew a large batch in a short amount of time our facilities are equipped to provide you with an amazing brew on premise experience.

What is Brew on Premise?

Brew on Premise is when you come into your local love2brew location to brew beer using love2brew equipment. All brewing on premise sessions include ingredients, personal instruction (if requested, not mandatory for experienced brewers), water, fermentation vessels and fermentation of the beer in our temperature controlled fermentation rooms. After the beer has completed fermentation you will return to bottle your beers on a predetermined date and then take them home to enjoy! All ingredients, time, instruction, bottles/caps, etc. are included in the initial price; there are no hidden or additional fees! Even better is there is all of the fun without the mess; we do all of the clean up, prep work, and sanitation so you can focus on the brew!

Why brew at love2brew?

There are many reasons people like to brew on premise instead of their home depending on the individual. Reasons include ranging from the desire for personal instruction, lack of space at home, use of our professional grade equipment, a day to hang out with friends, events and parties, and most importantly because they want to! love2brew also offers a completely unique take on the Brew on Premise; patrons can have the option of the traditional brew on premise where love2brew ferments and holds your brew or the unique option of taking your brew home with you as well as a Complete Equipment Kit at an incredibly discounted price!

Scheduling an Appointment to Brew on Premise

Getting started is as easy as calling your local love2brew store to make an appointment! (1.888.654.5511) It is recommended that you try and book your appointment a minimum of one week ahead of time; however the earlier the better. Available times may be found on our Calendar of Events but you will need to call ahead to confirm that the time has not already been booked. Each brew day will require you to block off about 2.5 hours of your personal schedule for your brew day. Each session may have up to four attendees, giving you a great opportunity to brew with friends! Reservations should be booked a minimum of two weeks ahead of time.

Welcome new participating members of New Jersey Craft Beer, Scott and Gina Hyndman at Keg and Barrel Homebrewing Supply! I was able to visit the store on Black Friday, in the late afternoon..I’m not really a morning person, especially a 4am morning person. As I walked through the doorway, I was amazed at the new renovations that took place since the last time I had come to Keg and Barrel. Various walls were removed, opening up an immense amount of walking-around room, as well as an overall update of the structure itself. Shelves are oozing with fresh brewing products such as the conventional grains (which can be crushed in-store as well), hops and yeast, kegging/bottling supplies, etc. one may see at any local homebrew store. Yet Keg and Barrel stands out among the masses with their inventory on more unique products. From Jersey fresh Honey, to smoker grills and wood chips, to cheese making ingredients and kits, and a plethora of other adjunct ingredients. While you are waiting, or if you would like to simply educate yourself, Keg and Barrel has a sizable HDTV with Home Brewing Instructional DVD’s playing. The NJCB Membership Discount for Keg and Barrel is a great idea as well: Spend $50 and get 1 free Wyeast package to all NJCB Membership Card carriers. The staff is friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about the craft beer scene. Head over to the Berlin Farmers Market and check out Keg and Barrel Homebrew Supply Store!

Visit their website, Facebook or in person at the Berlin Farmers Market. Entrance door A3. Located at 41 Clementon Rd., Store #110, Berlin, NJ 08009 and save!

Holiday Shopping- Charity Giving- Open House Party at The Brewers Apprentice! Here’s the info below from a recent email. Visit their website for more needs, including foster homes.

We here at The Brewer’s Apprentice urge our fellow NJ citizens to support your local businesses when making your holiday purchases (step away from the computer and grab your car keys)! This holiday season especially NJ small businesses will need us all to keep their doors open into the new year!

ALL Grain Brewing Seminar

Hurricane Sandy put a kabosh on our November 3rd All Grain seminar, but we’ve regrouped and we’re ready to roll… and we hope you are too!

On Saturday, December 8th from 5pm – 8pm, The Brewer’s Apprentice will be holding our second and final All Grain brewing seminar for 2012. This event is tailored for extract brewers getting into all-grain, as well as all-grain brewers with only a few batches under their belts. We’ll help demystify the all-grain process and give you the confidence and knowledge that you need in order to brew great all-grain beer at home. Plus you’ll get to sample some great beer while you learn!
Whether you know absolutely nothing about all-grain brewing or you’ve actually already brewed a couple batches, this course will take you through everything that you’ll need to do from start to finish and a little bit beyond…

We’ll talk about the additonal equipment you’ll need and how to use it. We’ll talk about basic techniques and principles and how to apply that knowledge. Everything will be presented as if you were doing it at home… so that you’ll easily be able to mimic what you see at the seminar.

This seminar will be hosted by our previous manager, Ron Mahler! During the demonstration, there will be plenty of opportunities for questions from the audience, and there will be plenty of up close and personal moments where you can see, feel, and taste the mashing process.

Lets not forget the drink! At half time, we’ll open up our taps so that you can taste some great all-grain beers that will be brewed just for the event!

We’ll also have an exclusive 10% OFF sale (only available to attendees during the event) on all brewing ingredients and equipment! Sorry, no rainchecks.

The seminar will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 5pm – 8pm. Tickets are $40 each. As with all of our seminars, tickets MUST be purchased in advance, we will not accept walk-ins. Tickets can be purchased by phone or by visiting us at the store. We look forward to seeing you!
