Our friends from Krogh’s sent over the following info. Almost a year has passed since we told you about their cave aged beer!
2014 will be the 15th Anniversary of our brew pub at Krogh’s Restaurant & Brew Pub! Since its inception 15 years ago, it still remains Sussex County’s first and only brew pub! We plan on celebrating this in a big way. Details to be released throughout the year. This one will be huge! And to celebrate, we are handcrafting a special, unique cask ale that has a year-long brewing process! Stay tuned to this event through facebook!
I wanted to let you know that Krogh’s has posted a video on Facebook of our upcoming Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout. February 7, 2014 will mark our 15th year as a brew pub and the video depicts the beer being transferred to barrels here at Krogh’s and then transported to The Sterling Hill Mine in Ogdensburg where it has been aging for a year. The link below directs you right to the facebook event and the video is on that page. It’s a little over 5 minutes long, but beer enthusiasts may find it interesting.
they sent over another email recently with the following…
Krogh’s Restaurant & Brew Pub celebrates their 15th Year Anniversary as a Brew Pub on February 7, 2014!
It is almost here…the one year mark when Krogh’s Restaurant & Brew Pub (kroghs.com) in Sparta taps their 15th Year Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout that has been aging, or ‘lagering’, in The Sterling Hill Mining Museum (sterlinghillminingmuseum.org). One year ago, filled oak barrels, or casks, were brought to the once active zinc mine in Ogdensburg because the mine’s constant temperature and humidity mimic pre-mechanical refrigeration days when beer was aged in caves. The sealed, undisturbed barrels have slowly been inheriting characteristics over the past year as one barrel was previously used to age bourbon, the other used to condition barley wine. Shortly these barrels will be removed from the caves and taken back to Krogh’s brewery where they will be blended and conditioned. On Friday, February 7, 2014, the long-awaited tapping and the 15th Year Anniversary celebration of Krogh’s Brew Pub begins! In 15 years, Krogh’s Restaurant & Brew Pub is still Sussex County’s first and only brew pub, handcrafting six beers, one rotating seasonal beer and various cask-conditioned ales.
