W.L Goodfellow’s & Co (Galloway Twp), a brief introduction

goodfellows galloway

W.L Goodfellow’s was founded in Absecon in 1984 by John Cicarelli Sr with the help of his sons John and James. The founders felt that the Atlantic City area needed a casual dining establishment, in contrast to the fine dining options available in Atlantic City. They began introducing craft beer selections shortly after founding.

As of 2011, the restaurant’s bar has amassed an impressive selection of draft (12) and bottled (70) beers. Six page menus are prominently displayed on the bar, drafts on the first page, bottled categories on pages two, three and four, beer styles on page five and general criteria for evaluating a great beer on the last page. This menu is available on the restaurant’s website, but isn’t yet completely up-to-date on most of the newer seasonal drafts.

On the three occasions I visited, the bartenders seemed genuinely interested in beer, fairly knowledgeable about the profiles of each draft when asked and normally opinionated when asked their preference (Blue Point’s Toasted Lager was a staff favorite).

The bar serves 12 oz drafts . Four 5 oz flights are available for $9.50, the customer’s choice of drafts served with an informational flyer giving details on the particular brew being sampled. I tried Green Flash Brewing Co.’s Hop Head Red, Blue Point Toasted Lager, Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, and North Coast Brewing’s Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale.

W.L. Goodfellow’s was a sponsor of the Atlantic City 2011 Beerfest and hosted a booth, selling commemorative souvenir mugs to benefit Vetworks, a South Jersey veterans’ support group.

Stop by, enjoy one of the bar’s draft or bottled selections on your way to Atlantic City.

W.L. Goodfellows and Co. is located at  310 East White Horse Pike in Galloway.  They can be found online here and Facebook too.
