Alternate Ending, the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp brew at The Pour House

Barley Legal Homebrewers and Pour House fans join up and visit on March 8 to try a beer made by a Barley Legal Homebrew Club Member and South Jersey resident, Kirk LaVecchia.  This beer will be available that day only and here’s what Kirk had to say.

Twenty-seven year old Kirk was selected from among other American Homebrewers Association members to ask a beer-related question to a panel of Sierra Nevada brewers, scientists and analysts. His question of how to create cheesesteak-flavored beer won the Medford, New Jersey, native a hearty laugh, an answer and a free trip to Chico, California, the home of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, to brew a batch of beer with eight other American Homebrewers Association members. The group, for reasons Kirk still can’t explain, decided against Kirk’s proposed cheesesteak beer and instead crafted an American version of a German-style Alt Bier. Utilizing some proprietary hops and the guidance of Scott Jennings, Sierra Nevada’s Research and Development Head Brewer, Kirk and the other beer campers brewed two 10-barrel batches, equivalent to 620 gallons, of the alt bier they called “Alternate Ending.”

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp is a special event held several times a year for beer distributors, writers and anyone lucky enough to be invited to attend. Beer Camp takes place over three days where campers learn about Sierra Nevada, tour the brewing facilities, visit the Abbey of New Clairvaux (who contributes to Sierra’s Ovila abbey-style brand), brew their own collaborative beer in the pilot-brewery and, of course, drink and enjoy Sierra Nevada beer.

Pour House is located at 124 Haddon Ave in Westmont, online, Facebook and Twitter too.  NJCB Members receive a killer deal of $1 off craft beer drafts (excluding specials)!  Stop in and save DAILY!
Alternate Ending, which uses an experimental hop only known as #366, will be served on Thursday, March 8th, at The Pour House.  Kirk invites all curious beer aficionados to come out for a chance to drink this exclusive Sierra Nevada beer available only at this location in the North East.

  1. This guy makes some great beer! If you want to get in on the ground floor of a future great brewer and businessman — and have some tasty beer — this is a "can't miss" event.
