I like to drink off-centered and brew askew.

The Rusty Barrel

The Rusty Barrel is located about twenty minutes west of Atlantic City, just off the White Horse Pike on 375 St. Louis Ave in Egg Harbor City. Stopped in briefly to get a list of craft beers offered by this well-known local establishment – my bartender Kevin, a converted Bud-Bud Light-Coors Light drinker, has worked at the Rusty Barrel since August and gave me the rundown of craft currently on tap and in bottles : […]

Gourmet Italian Cuisine, a quick update

The Italian Gourmet, as it’s called by locals, is pushing the envelope of craft beer in Galloway Township and Atlantic County – eight new taps, growler fills and (soon) flights, 4 7 oz beers served on paddles that general manager Justin Lucas is in the process of having made. Started the evening with a Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye after asking bartender Mike Taylor his opinion.  Next selection was a Yard’s GW’s Tavern Porter : “Doesn’t

Atlantic City’s Tun Tavern was established by owner and fomer Marine Montgomery Dahm in 1998 in homage to the original Philadelphia brewhouse founded in 1681. It is attached to the new Atlantic City convention center’s Sheraton, a short walk (five blocks) from the Boardwalk. It is currently the city’s only microbrewery. Marlton native Tim Kelly is the Tun’s current brewmaster – newjerseycraftbeer.com was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview him on a weekday

White Horse Wine and Spirits, an update and introduction

Stopped by White Horse Wine and Spirits in Absecon for a six-pack and to have a few words with Adam Sternberger and Chad Umansky, co-beer-geeks-in-charge. The store has a truly awesome selection, too many craft beers to list, six packs and large format bottles. Sternberger wants the word out, for people to know that their store is going to be a force on the local beer scene. “People coming down to Atlantic City, if they know

daddy O Hotel & Restaurant, Brant Beach, Long Beach Island

daddy O Hotel & Restaurant’s general manager Pete Palladino, formerly of sister property, the Plantation, Harvey Cedars NJ, summed up his philosophy to craft beer very simply : “I’d rather have two really outstanding beers than like seventeen, that…”. You can guess the rest. “If I love the list, then I hope other people will as well.” True to his sentiments, the bar’s eclectic mix offers something for both the mainstream and craft beer drinker.

Tun Tavern, a brief introduction

The Tun Tavern is Atlantic City’s and county’s  only microbrewery, namesake of the original Philadelphia brew house established by Samuel Carpenter in 1685 – the tun in the name is an Old English word for the measured cask or barrel that beer was aged and transported in. Montgomery Dahm, a former Marine and local entrenpreur, learned about the original Tun’s connection to the birth of the Corps, and acquired the trademark in 1991. In 1998,

W.L Goodfellow’s & Co (Galloway Twp), a brief introduction

W.L Goodfellow’s was founded in Absecon in 1984 by John Cicarelli Sr with the help of his sons John and James. The founders felt that the Atlantic City area needed a casual dining establishment, in contrast to the fine dining options available in Atlantic City. They began introducing craft beer selections shortly after founding. As of 2011, the restaurant’s bar has amassed an impressive selection of draft (12) and bottled (70) beers. Six page menus
