Introduction to Homebrewing

Rich, a loyal reader of NJCB, sent over info on a class he’s instructing at Burlington County College.  Here’s his info!

I am going to be teaching a homebrewing class at Burlington County College in Mt. Holly at their Culinary Center on March 7 (Wed. 7-10p)  and April 7 (Sat. noon-3p).  The name of the course is: Brewing Appreciation: Introduction to Homebrewing and it’s in the Spring BCC catalog online now (CFH-315 @ bcc.edu).  $89 and I’m going to use George Hummel’s The Complete Homebrew Beer Book as the text for the course (I want to keep things local as much as possible). It’s purely lecture, no brewing will take place, but the course will provide information on brewing basics and what new brewers need to get started.  If you know anyone who may be considering getting into brewing, please mention the course to them.

  1. I am considering attending. I have some home brewing experience, but am looking to expand my knowledge on the subject. $90 for the course is not bad. I have to find out more about the book though. Are there test?!

  2. Ken:
Sorry…just saw this comment. If you already have some experience, might not be right for you. No brewing, no tests — just a lot of information on beer, homebrewing — the equipment, process, etc. — and discounts to local homebrew shops on kits, equipment, etc. We use George Hummel's new homebrew book, The Complete Homebrew Beer Book, which he makes available at a discount –and signs! Got good feedback from the inaugural class. Next class: Sat., April 7 from noon-3 p.m. I'll watch this thread for anyone who needs more information! Thanks for your interest and to Mike for supporting craft beer in NJ!
