About
The Bathena family owns and operates the Buy Rite franchise in New Jersey, with 6 stores owned by the immediate family and over 50 other stores serving as franchises. The Sarala Bathena Foundation was started in memory of dear Sarala, a beloved wife and cherished mother who lost her battle with cancer. It is because of her spirit and generosity that our goal is and has always been to contribute in any way possible to a better tomorrow for those individuals and families affected by cancer as well as those who continue to make a positive difference everyday in the lives of others.
History
The Bathenas started hosting annual fundraiser wine tasting events in 2007 and the proceeds from the first two years were used to start the Sarala Bathena Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital Foundation. The Foundation then started hosting an annual golf outing in 2010. These two annual events have helped them raise hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years. They have donated money to diverse organizations, such as Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, Ashley Lauren Foundation, Red Cross of India, Family & Friends of Ella Mae, York Street Project, and the Monmouth Museum, just to name a few. The foundation also works with these organizations to help at-risk youth.
