Commonwealth Brewing Co was founded as the manifestation of one family’s love for making uncompromising, exceptional beer and sharing the experiences with friends. The spark of inspiration was ignited during a revelatory European brewery and beer hall tour while Jeramy was visiting Natalie, who was traveling (aka wandering) abroad for two years. But it wasn’t until 2013, after years of stove top excellence, beer geekery and a house too full of brewing equipment, that it was time to fully embrace the craft beer lifestyle.

Commonwealth opened Sept 6, 2015 as a result of next level commitment, mild insanity, family, friends and a profound sense of purpose. Since then, we’ve grown into a tight knit band of like minded people who believe beer should be adventurous, diverse, extremely drinkable, and defy boundaries. We honor farmhouse traditions, huge hop American styles, and the complex depths of wild fermentations.

Located inside a fully renovated, former fire and rescue station built in 1962 and nestled in a funky beach cottage community (flip flops mandatory) on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, our facility is complete with a double garage bay tasting room, private event spaces, an outdoor beer garden, and a conditioned barrel cellar housing hundreds of barrels of mixed fermentations for long term aging.

Beers we’re tapping:

1) The Wealth 5.1% Saison
The Wealth is our flagship Saison, a dry blond, refreshing, hazy, pillowy beer we’ve made for three years running and never brewed exactly the same twice in an effort to capture the elusive essence of the perfect Saison.

2) Aureole 5.4% Pilsner
As adaptable as it is uncommon, this pale malt is anything but conventional. Pale malt from the finest Maltster in Belgium unites with classic hops from Czech and Styria to transcend tradition in the most delicious way possible. Sip a flute or chug a liter; this beer is built for either.

3) Limitless 8.5% DIPA
Sabro, Nelson Sauvin, and Moutere DIPA

4) Big Papi 8% DIPA
The 8% big brother version of Papi Chulo, w/Citra, Mosaic & Idaho 7, super juicy with low bitterness!

5) Charon 5.4% Rye Pale Ale
Rye Pale Ale with Cryo Citra and Hallertau Blanc

6) Cheval au Soleil 5.5% Witbier Delicious, hazy aromatic Belgian Wit juxtaposed with chamomile, orange zest, and coriander. This spring/summer beer is a perfect companion in or on the water!

7) Papi Chulo 6.5% NEIPA
NE Style IPA w/ Citra, Mosaic & Idaho 7

8) Argonaut 8% DIPA –
DIPA brewed with Belma, Styrian Cardinal, & Mosaic hops

9) Trois 9.5% TIPA
DIPA brewed with Belma, Styrian Cardinal, & Mosaic hops

10) Havana 7.2% Gose
Gose Style Ale with pineapple, tangerine, cherry and meyer lemon

Stop in for a couple beers.
