Grab your clip boards and throw on your lab jackets it’s a Double Taproom Test Dept.™ Release this Friday, July 13th!
Test Dept.™ Lo-Tech Pale Ale
ABV: 6.3%
IBU: 49Test Dept.™ Lo-Tech Belgian Pale Ale
ABV: 6.6%
IBU: 53Why Lo-Tech? These beers are simple pale ales brewed with a basic malt bill consisting of Pils, Vienna and a bit of Caramel –10 for a subtle maltiness with a solid body. They both pour with a golden hue with an unfiltered slight haze.
The Lo-Tech comes from the fact that all the hops in the kettle were Cascade LEAF hops. It’s fun to go back to using just one hop and have it be the hop that really started this whole crazy craft beer thing way back before the dawn of time.
The Lo-Tech Pale Ale uses a traditional ale yeast. Pleasant citrus, candy, fruity and slightly sweet flavors and aromas throughout.
The Lo-TechBelgian Ale has a Belgian Saison yeast in the same wort. There is also a healthy addition of Cascade hops added at the start of fermentation. The flavor starts similarly to to the regular version with a bit more bitterness in the finish and even more fruity flavors with a dose of belgian yeast character on top of it all.
The additional hops added with the yeast make for yet another layer of flavors.
Try them side by side to key in on how the different yeasts make the same wort become two distinct beers.
