Jersey City: Melissa from Beer for Babes sent us the following information.
Beer for Babes will hang out at Departed Soles on Sunday in Jersey City, if anyone wants to come. It’s next to Bucket & Bay Craft Gelato Co, so we can have beer and gelato for brunch! And take a brewery tour! And yes, there is a beer-flavored gelato.
We’ll talk about the history of breweries in Northern New Jersey, specifically in Hudson County, and how women can get involved in the beer industry here.
Departed Soles is the only brewery in Jersey City. It’s right by the Grove Street PATH station, and there’s tons of parking. Half of their beers are gluten free. Brian Kulbacki, the owner and head brewer, will talk to us about the history of the brewery, especially gluten-free aspects of brewing.
This event will be headed by Melissa Surach, who was born and raised in Jersey City, and is the head of the Northern New Jersey chapter for Beer for Babes. She wrote Beer Advocate’s Destination Jersey City, so she knows all the good craft beer spots in town. She’s the manager at The Thirsty Quaker, a homebrew/craft beer shop in Jersey City, and is an award-winning homebrewer, and freelance writer.
Beer for Babes is New Jersey’s first beer education organization for women. Here’s the Facebook event.
