At the growler station in Max’s Freehold Boro, 611 Park Avenue they are allowing NJCB Members (and hopefully readers too) the chance to use your own growlers and not purchase their growler to fill your beer up. Currently, as of yesterday, September 29, they have Tommy Knocker Small Patch Harvest Pumpkin, Ommegang BPA and Keegan Mother’s Milk Stout. Go into Freehold and drink up!

They told me (yesterday, in fact) that they would not fill growlers that weren't their own branded bottles. As luck would have it, I was not interested in any of those 3 beers. While I've heard of brewpubs in NJ refusing "other" brand or blank growlers, it's seems odd for a retailer to do so.
I agree on the refusal aspect. Last thing I need is 10 more clear glass growlers. I've been asking Max's about this for months and they told me they would allow our Members to do it. I will try and get clarification for you. Maybe they can even chime in with a direct comment about the reasoning.
I am with Max's and I'm sorry for the confusion, I am not sure why they refused your request, but when we have beers that you do like on tap I will be more than happy to offer you a discount on top of you using your own growler.
great to see a reply right from the business!
