Rare Beers

1) Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien 2015

*Boldly treading the boundary between port, wine and beer, l’Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien is a unique ale aged in wooden casks which have been used for several years before to age Merlot, Merlot Cabernet, Whisky and then Grappa. It manages to merge into L’Abbaye all the complex aromas of a vintage red wine along with the delicate harmony and flavors of the wood and its former contents. This process requires close monitoring of the beer’s evolution. The final version is blended from different casks, to ensure optimal balance, complexity and enjoyment.

2) J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (Lagavulin Whisky Cask) 2013

*Each December, English brewery J.W. Lees release its Harvest Ale, a giant barleywine pushing 11% abv. A popular candidate for aging, Harvest Ale is packed with malts to continue developing for years to come, which made it a prudent choice for J.W. Lees to condition in various barrels.

For 4 months, J.W. Lees ages Harvest Ale in casks that once held Lagavulin Scotch, Port, Sherry, or Calvados apple brandy. This particular keg is from the 2033 vintage, so it definitely has some age to it.

3) Harviestoun Quercus Ubhal

•Harviestoun’s Bitter & Twisted is a sharp, blond beer with a superb fresh hop profile. Hersbrucker, giving a hint of honey and the tang of grapefruit: Challenger, giving a spicy fruitiness like the “twist” of a lemon and finished with a pinch of Styrian. This beer is then fermented with “Thistle Cross” cider yeast and aged in Ola Dubh barrels. Incredibly unique product. Blurs the lines between beer and cider.

4) Apostelbrau Dinkelbock Special Edition aged

•Top Fermenting Bock beer, first fermentation in granite for four weeks, second fermentation and maturation in Tennessee Whiskey Barrels for four to six months

5) Loverbeer BeerBrugna

•This beer is inocculated by wild yeasts (Brettanomyces included) and lactic bacteria. Small, dark and very sweet Damaschine variety plums, also called Ramassin in Piemontese dialect, are added in steeping to restart a new fermentation to characterize the product.

6) Fuchshof Most German Cider

•Fuchshof Most consists of the apple varieties “Braeburn” and “Jonagold”, mixed with the pear varieties “Oberösterreichische Weinbirne (Austrian Speckbirne)” and “Schweizer Wasserbirne (Swiss Kluderbirne)”.The flavors follow suit with sharp apple acidity once the liquid hits your tounge, balanced by a white grape character along with a hint of fresh cut grass. An engrossing minerality encompasses the palate. Long finish
