Cherry Hill: Jamie from Forgotten Boardwalk blasted out this information for Seth’s (also from FBB) annual charity event.
In 1997, Seth Dolled’s mother, Sharon, was diagnosed with a rare, genetic disease that was affecting her kidneys. Without hesitation or even knowing if he was a match, Seth offered his kidney to his mom.
“I was about 15 at the time and just immediately offered if she needed one,” recalls the Bradley Beach resident.
“Fast forward to seven years and I indeed was a match and ready to donate my kidney to her.”
In 2006, Dolled donated his left kidney to his mother at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. The transplant was a success and both donor and recipient are living very normal, healthy lives. They now are celebrating life by giving back to the local community.
“We developed the “Spice of Life” charity event because it gives us the opportunity to raise money for organizations that I relied on for information, before and after the operation,” explained Seth, brewery enthusiast and Ringmaster of Sales at Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing, where “Spice of Life” is held.
“Spice of Life” is a fundraising event held on January 29th that raises money for The National Kidney Foundation’s Central New Jersey Kidney Walk, The Living Kidney Donor’s Network and the Gift of Life Donor Program. Attendees can enjoy specially brewed spicy beers for this event as well as Forgotten Boardwalk’s classic beer lineup, meet vendors and learn more about kidney donation and kidney disease prevention.
“It was at this event last year, when we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our donation and transplant, that I realized this event is a lot more than just my personal experience, said Seth. “I’ve met so many kidney donors through this event, it’s incredible.”
