Atlantic City: Amanda McCullough from Atlantic Cape sent us over their beer brewing class for this semester. Starting Spring 2016, here’s the information we know.

Academy of Culinary Arts Offers Noncredit Course on Brewing Beer this Spring

If you are interested in learning how to brew beer, the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College will offer a 10-week introduction on just that this spring. “Beer Leadership: Brewing” will cover the steps to brew beer as well as different types of grains used to make beer and their effect on the final product.

Some topics that will be covered include:

  • How to Alter the Final Alcohol Content and its Effect on Palpability
  • Understanding the Purpose and Use of Carbonation
  • Exploring Types of Hops and Flavor Profiles Associated with Each
  • Different Methods of Brewing Specific Types of Lagers, Pilsners and IPAs
  • Importance of Sanitation

This is the second in a series of beer and microbrewing courses at the ACA. This workshop

will include both brewing and tasting beer.

Dr. Lynn Hoffman, author of “A Short Course in Beer,” will lead the workshop. This course is offered through Atlantic Cape’s Continuing Education division. It will meet 6-9 p.m., 10 Mondays beginning March 21, at the Worthington Atlantic City Campus, 1535 Bacharach Blvd. The fee is $400.
