Releasing Bells Hop Slam Ale on Draft only. Growler Fill available starting Sunday.

Hopslam is out in the world, and on the way to a tap or can near you starting this week. One of the most popular speciality releases from Bell’s Brewery, Hopslam is a beer to certainly enjoy, but not to take lightly.

Hopslam is a Double India Pale Ale beer, which means it not only is going to have a big body, tons of aroma and flavor, and yes, a huge kick of hops. It’s also going to have one heck of an ABV (alcohol by volume). In addition to all of those hops that get added to a DIPA, brewers also add a significant amount more to the grain bill, not only increasing that ABV, but also rounding out the flavor of all those hops. People new to this style usually are surprised to find them usually tasting a bit more balanced than a traditional IPA, with all of those hops being rounded out by more malt.

Bell’s Hopslam features one of the most complex hop profiles in their catalogue of beers. Six different hop varietals get added to the kettle, and then a big dose of Simcoe hops are dry-hopped in at the end. Adding to the fun, and the alcohol is the addition of Michigan honey, which along with the malt bill, helps to balance out all that bitter.
