Join your fellow beer loving friends, industry people, brewers, sales reps, Team NJCB, Kris from Tavern on the Lake and featuring Kyle from Harvest Moon (a professional brewer with over 300 10BBL batches of craft beer under his belt) for an afternoon of tasting off flavors in beer. With the help of Samuel Adams, we’re going to experiment and learn together and share some beers too.
On July 13 from 1-4PM we will be assembling at Tavern on the Lake in Hightstown (just minutes off Exit 8 on the NJ Turnpike and Route 33, 130 & 133) for our first Off Flavor Sensory Class. What does this mean? We will sample beer that is mixed with ingredients to cause the following off flavors:
- Acetaldehyde
- Isoamyl acetate
- Diacetyl
- DMS
- Trans-2-nonenal
- Infected
These off flavors are the basic six off flavors found in beer that are caused by variety of reasons. We will discuss each flavor in an open forum with plenty of time for Q&A. This class is perfect for beer drinkers of every level, brewers, homebrewers, sales representatives, wholesalers and anyone with a passion for knowledge and education. There is not a certificate nor a test, it’s a learning experience and the knowledge you will gain is important to grow your beer skills.

Oh did I mention I’ll be bringing some rare beers from my collection to open and share with you? I think you’ll enjoy some of them. Feel free to bring any homebrews/bottles/cans you’d like to share with the class but please limit it to 24oz of liquid or less.
