Small Craft, Big Competition
Japan rarely comes to mind when people think of beer, however, contrary to popular belief, Japan has one of the most rich and vibrant beer cultures the world has to offer (even with only a few big producers of beer).
Kirin Ichiban, Yebisu, Asahi, and Sapporo, these names have become recognizable worldwide.
But what about craft beer?
Craft beer in Japan is steadily gaining traction with small brewers cropping up everywhere, similar to how it began in America some 20 years ago.
Hokkaido (ho-kah-ee-doe) Brewing Company is on the west coast of the northernmost island of Japan, the prefecture of Hokkaido. Second in size only to the mainland of Japan, Hokkaido is known for its high quality food production, ice shows, and beautiful landscapes. Hokkaido Brewing Company, located in the coastal city of Otaru in Hokkaido, sits just only 20 miles from the major city of Sapporo, home to the macro brewer of the same name.
Hokkaido Brewing strives to create unique, and exquisite craft beers with flavors that represent the true nature of Japan. We’re countering the tried and weary macro beers with our handcrafted refreshing fruit and full bodied Otaru lines of craft beers. We pride ourselves on using natural fruit and ingredients straight from Japan and importing here to the states.
