Mike Formisano comes to Long Valley Pub and Brewery having most recently been the Research & Development Brewer for Wallenpaupack Brewing Company, in Hawley, Pennsylvania. Mike has been brewing since 2005, when his wife, Kara, bought him a Mr. Beer Homebrew Kit as a Christmas present. A native of Long Island, Mike moved to Colorado in 2008, where he immersed himself in the local craft beer scene. Over a four year Homebrew Competition career, Mike won 80 awards for 20 different recipes styles in contest all throughout the country, including a Gold Medal at the 2011 National Homebrew Competition, the largest Beer Competition in the world! Mike used this experience to gain opportunities to Brew in commercial settings, with breweries such as Rock Bottom Restaurants, Golden City Brewery, and Oskar Blues Brewing Company. In 2013, Mike was chosen by New Belgium Brewing Company to brew one of his recipes at their brewery, and enter it into the 2013 Great American Beer Festival Pro-Am Competition! New Belgium’s entry had won the competition the previous year, and in 2013, Mike made sure New Belgium stayed in the winners circle, taking home the silver medal, placing 2nd out of 100 entries! At the time, Mike was only one of 24 amateur brewers to have ever won a GABF Medal!
Mike arrives at Long Valley with experience brewing various craft beer styles, including English Ales, German Lagers, as well as Belgian-style and American-style beers. Mike is a graduate of Syracuse University with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism. He currently lives in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania with his wife, Kara, along with their their three children, Michael (8), Charles (6), and Alexander (4).
