Head Brewer

Job Description

Position Overview
The Head Brewer reports to the Chief of Operations and will generally be involved with brewing, inventory management, packaging, cleaning and maintenance duties at the brewery, and otherwise supports brewery operations as directed in order to meet production goals.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
• Autonomously operating brewhouse and all ancillary equipment in order to meet production goals
• Meticulously recording brewing processes and data on a continuous basis
• Fermentation monitoring, cold side ingredient additions, cellaring
• Transferring, carbonating beer
• Yeast management; propagation, harvesting, monitoring viability/vitality
• Research and Development tasks
• Recipe Development
• Quality Assurance tasks
• Cleaning, sanitation and maintenance of all brewing equipment
• CIP/SIP of all brewery vessels
• Packaging; including kegging, canning and bottling
• Autonomously operating and maintaining canning machinery
• Autonomously operating and maintaining keg cleaning equipment
• Managing cooperage
• Cold room, chiller system monitoring and maintenance
• Finished product and raw ingredient ordering and inventory management
• Thorough, routine cleaning, sanitation and maintenance of brewing facility
Qualifications
• Minimum two years’ professional experience as Head Brewer
• Bachelor’s degree in brewing science from an accredited educational institution a plus
• Experience with barrel aging program a plus
Must be able to:
• Lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs regularly
• Stand for 8-10 hours per day
• Operate complex machinery
• Work in a non-temperature controlled environment
• Handle hazardous materials, chemicals safely
Successful candidates will also possess:
• Experience with brewery management software, such as Ekos or Orchestrated Beer
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, Powerpoint
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Close attention to detail
• Willingness to assist with tasks outside key responsibilities
• Communicate efficiently and effectively with team and customers
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
• Extensive knowledge about chemicals; handling, storage, and use

Compensation based on level of experience.
