I finally got a tour of The Iron Monkey. Three floors of beer, seriously. There is the small ground floor bar which has a bunch of taps of rotating, seasonal crafts and a few generics too. Then second floor with a few kegerator lines and some jockey box taps as well and the rooftop bar with more taps. The building is old though and not done being renovated so it is sort of small but the beer selection is great. Matt Cinotti , the beer manager who started a few months back, gave me a quick tour of the facilities. Iron Monkey has been a staple in Jersey City for a long time and recently decided to tell outsiders that they have craft beer.
Every week there’s going to be a featured brewery and the taps are constantly changing. Stop on it and look for Matt.

Hi. My name is Liam and I live in Scotland. One of my school friends got moved by his employer to work in New York about five years ago and (lucky me!) I've been coming over to visit him and his wife for a two-week vacation every summer for the last five years.
They live in Jersey City, just around the corner from The Iron Monkey. In fact, The Iron Monkey was where they had me meet them after my subway journey in from JFK when I arrived for what was not only my first visit to them, but my first-ever visit to New York/New Jersey. The Monkey was the first place I ate at in NY/NJ. It was the first place I had a beer in NY/NJ. It was the place that introduced me to Blue Point Blueberry beer, now one of my all-time favourites.
Why am I telling you all this? Well, I just wanted to let the Iron Monkey management know that I love their bar! There are a few pubs that mean a lot to me over here in Scotland because of the happy times I spent in them with friends over the years. I've also spent many happy hours (and "happy hours") in other great bars in NY/NJ during my visits but, honestly, none of them quite match the character and atmosphere of the Iron Monkey. Maybe it's because it was the first bar i visited on my first visit. Maybe it's because it's within easy staggering distance of my friends' apartment!
But it's just such a great place to hang out and I just wish I could visit more often than a few times a year! Whenever any friends say they are headed for New York, I always advise them to catch the PATH over to Jersey City for a night at The Monkey.
I'll be back over in July this year and look forward to a few good nights at the Monkey — and was delighted to see on here that there is a Blue Point night scheduled there while I am in town, since, as I mentioned earlier, I'm a big fan of their beer.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough with this gushing praise! Good job with this site, too, which has given me a few ideas for new places to try out during my next trip, and keep up the good work.
