Wine Library Summer Beer Seminar: Belgium vs. San Diego

This just in from The Wine Library

Wine Library Summer Beer Seminar, 7-8pm on Tuesday June 5th:

Belgium vs. San Diego!

Wine Library is hosting a FREE sampling and information seminar that features 2 beers from Belgium, and 2 beers from San Diego. John Hoyos, the Esoteric Fermentation Consultant at Hunterdon Brewing Co., LLC and Certified Cicerone®, will be on hand talking about how brewers from Belgium and the West Coast brewing Mecca of San Diego, CA have adopted one another’s beer styles, made them their own, and how they continue to influence each other.

Belgian Beers to be sampled

1) Schelde Hop Ruiter: A Belgian Strong Golden Ale that simultaneously features the aromatic esters that Belgian beers are famous for, and an American sized hop profile. 90 points BeerAdvocate.com

2) Dupont Biere de la Beloiel: A Biere de Garde / Strong Saison that utilizes a funky yeast from Brasserie Dupont to yield herbal, citrusy aromatics along with a warming, dry finish. 95 points RateBeer.com

San Diego beers to be sampled

1) Green Flash Rayon Vert: A Belgian-Style Pale Ale that juxtaposes a West Coast hop pressence with the earthy, rustic flavors imparted by Brettanomyces – a wild yeast strain that harkens back to the early days of Belgian brewing. 97 points RateBeer.com

2) Lost Abbey Red Barn: A San Diegan take on the Belgian Saison style that employs the subtle use of Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise. 98 points RateBeer.com

No RSVP required, just meet us on the 2nd floor of the Wine Library by 7pm on Tuesday, June 5th with a thirst for knowledge… and FREE BEER!
